Irritable bowel syndrome is a symptom-based diagnosis, which is characterized by chronic abdominal pain, bloating, discomfort and alteration of bowel habits. As a functional gastrointestinal disorder, the syndrome is known to has organic cause. Although no cure for is known for it, treatments attempt to relieve symptoms. Some of them are dietary adjustments, medication and psychological interventions. Patient education and good patient-doctor relationships are also very important.
